Academic Advising
STEP 1
Watch the following five short videos (~11 minutes) to get prepared to register for your first term classes:
- Are You Ready to Register for Classes
- First-Term Advising
- How Many Credits Should I Take
- How to plan classes
- How to register for classes
STEP 2
For help selecting classes or registering, we have the following two options:
Option 1: Sign up for a group new student advising session
We have group sessions for students interested in Business, Health Professions, Social Sciences/Human Services/Criminal Justice, STEM, or who are undecided/exploring. In these two-hour sessions, advisors will teach you how to use CCC’s class registration system (Self Service) and help you sign up for classes. Sessions are in-person at the Oregon City campus. Click on a link below to sign up. Only sign up for one session, even if you have several areas of interest.
- Business (Tuesdays, 2-4 p.m.)
- Health Professions/Pre-Nursing (Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-noon)
- Social Science/Human Services/Criminal Justice (Mondays, 10 a.m.-noon)
- STEM (science, computer science, engineering, math) (Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-noon)
- Undecided/General/Exploratory (Thursdays, 2-4 p.m.) (good for students who want to transfer, are undecided on a major, are exploring options or seeking a general studies degree)
Option 2: Schedule an individual appointment with your advisor if:
- You are transferring to CCC from another college/university or
- You are interested in
- You need a virtual meeting (phone/Zoom) or
- You cannot attend a group session
You can get assistance from any advisor, but you will have an assigned advisor based on your area of interest/educational focus area (EFA). See the "Who is my academic advisor?" section below.

Academic Standing Policy
All credit seeking, non-high school students enrolling in 4 credits or more each term will be required to maintain a minimum term GPA of 2.0 and complete at least 50% of their attempted credits. (Credits attempted do not include credit hours dropped prior to the second week of the term or credits changed to audit).
Students will be evaluated for academic standing and notified by the Registrar's Office at the end of each term if one or more of the academic standing criteria have not been met.
Academic Alert
Term GPA is below 2.00 and/or not passing at least 50% of attempted credits for one term when enrolled in four or more credits.
When placed on academic alert, this is your first warning. You are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor and take advantage of academic support resources to assist with areas of concern.
Academic Warning
Term GPA is below 2.00 and/or not passing at least 50% of attempted credits for two terms in a row when enrolled in four or more credits. To have your registration hold removed, complete the following three steps:
- Schedule an academic warning appointment with an academic advisor.
- A registration hold is placed on your account. You may not register for classes until you complete an academic warning appointment. Schedule an appointment
- Prepare for your appointment.
- Complete and submit the Academic Warning Questionnaire at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you do not complete your questionnaire, you will be required to reschedule your appointment.
- During your appointment.
- During your appointment, you and an academic advisor will review your questionnaire and create a success plan.
- Your registration hold will be removed.
Academic Probation Frequently Asked Questions (PDF)
Academic Suspension
Term GPA is below 2.00 and/or not passing at least 50% of attempted credits for three terms in a row when enrolled in four or more credits.
When you feel that you are ready to return to Clackamas Community College and can demonstrate how you plan to be successful and further your education, please apply for reinstatement on CCC's reinstatement application.
Applications should be submitted no later than 6 weeks prior to the term you wish to enroll. Applications received after this date may not be considered for enrollment the next term.
Request a prerequisite waiver for a class (if you have college credit from another college/university).
