Horticulture at Clackamas Community College

Love the idea of working outside in a growing, hands-on field? If you are looking for a career that combines art and science, as well as a balance between physical and intellectual work, CCC offers four areas of plant study that can get you out of the office and in contact with nature. CCC's horticulture department includes arboriculture, horticulture, landscape and organic farming programs.

Workshops and Events

The Horticulture department offers workshops for the community and industry. We offer classes in general gardening interests, continuing education credits for license holders with the Landscape Contractors Board, Oregon Department of Agriculture, and Irrigation Association, as well as pesticides training in English and Spanish.     Yoga for Plant People (and everyone else too!)

    Saturday, June 1, 9-11 a.m., Fee: $15, Register

    To all the farmers, gardeners, arborists, landscapers, and anyone else using their bodies outdoors and indoors, this yoga class is for you! You will be introduced to, and practice, ways to strengthen, stretch, and relax your muscles and find relief for the soreness and aches that come with this type of work. We'll focus on form and fluidity in yoga poses and daily moves.

    Flowering Plant Identification

    Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m.-noon, Fee: $20, Register
    Join us for a morning of plant awareness! We’ll start in the classroom, discussing features of some major plant families and locally grown genera and species of plants. We’ll enjoy a stroll around the Oregon City campus looking at flowering plants and trees and how they’re used in our landscape.  LCB 3 CEH.

    Irrigation System Tips for Homeowners

    Saturday, June 8, 9 a.m.-noon, Fee: $40, Register
    Join us to learn tips that every homeowner should know about their irrigation system. This workshop will cover how to know your water usage and why it’s important, information about backflow testing requirements, understanding and programming a basic irrigation controller, sprinkler head adjustment basics, common maintenance and trouble-shooting issues and system winter-ization needs.
